Three weeks ago, my colleague, Yidy Fuxman of Knot the Tzitzit, made a remarkable acquisition: a pair of Tzitzis once worn by the esteemed Ribnitzer Rebbe, Rabbi Chaim Zanvl Abramowitz, of blessed memory. This Beged, obtained for a significant sum, offers a unique glimpse into the Rebbe’s personal Tzitzis observance.
Upon careful examination, Yidy observed an intriguing detail: the Chulyos—the coils in the Tzitzis—were tied differently on the left and right sides. Initially, this asymmetry seemed accidental. However, the consistent pattern on both the front and back suggested a deliberate, unique tying method employed by the Rebbe himself.
Due to certain constraints, Yidy couldn’t share detailed images of the original Tzitzis. He also mentioned that even he found it challenging to recall the exact sequence of the ties. Determined to study and and share this distinct tying method, I acquired a set from him replicating the Rebbe’s precise tying method.
The journey of these Tzitzis from Brooklyn to Monsey and finally to Toronto was filled with numerous twists and turns (no pun intended). BeChasdei Hashem, they arrived safely. I am now able to offer this unique tying method as a service to anyone wishing to connect with the Ribnitzer Rebbe’s legacy through their Tzitzis.
