Rabbi Yitzchak Brand is a Charedi rabbi and prolific writer whose name is associated with strongly argued halachic and hashkafic positions that often sit outside the standard party line. Born in Zurich in 1949, he learned in Yeshivas Lucerne and later in Ponevezh after coming to Eretz Yisrael. After his marriage, he continued for many years in Kollel Ponevezh. (Wikipedia)

Over time he became involved in building institutions as well as writing. Sources connect him with the Be’er Miriam seminary, the Aliba DeHilchesa kollel in Aix-les-Bains, and Yeshivas Od Yosef Chai in Shechem. In recent years he has been living in Mea Shearim, Jerusalem.

Rabbi Brand’s writing appears under the title Beriti Yitzchak, which serves both as the name of his sefarim and as the banner for a large online archive of essays and booklets. The range is unusually broad: Eretz Yisrael, the Mikdash and korbanos, halachic controversy, ציבור questions, and techeiles all appear there.

He is especially identified with advocacy for עליה להר הבית בטהרה. In public interviews and published essays, Rabbi Brand argues that Jews should not treat the mitzvos tied to the Mikdash as indefinitely suspended, and that preparation for the rebuilding of the Beis HaMikdash belongs in practical halachic life, not only in theory.

That same independence shows up in other areas. He has argued for political involvement where Torah positions need representation, strongly opposed IDF enlistment for the Charedi ציבור, and written sharply against both sheitels and the standard form of mechiras chametz. Whether one agrees with him or not, he is not writing in slogans. He is writing to stake out positions he believes halachah requires. (Wikipedia)
