Rabbi Baruch Natan Rotman was born on 26 Cheshvan 5729 in Bnei Brak to a Religious Zionist family with lineage tracing back to רבי אלימלך מליז’ענסק. During his childhood, his family spent two years in England, where he studied in second and third grade.
He later learned at Yeshiva Tichonit Sha’alvim. In his second year of yeshiva ketanah he transferred to Yeshivas Ohr Yisrael, and afterward continued in Yeshivas Ponevezh. During those years he became close to Rabbi Dov Lando, with whom he learned regularly, and also to Rabbi Sheraya Devlitzky.
After his marriage to the daughter of Rabbi Aharon Frank, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Maoz Chayil, he settled in Bayit Vegan, Jerusalem. He then learned in Yeshivas Mir and grew close to Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel. At that stage as well, he learned with Rabbi Yitzchok Shlomo Zilberman, whom he regards as his primary rebbi, and with Rabbi Shalom Ulman.
Rabbi Rotman later served as a RA”M in Yeshivas Aderes Eliyahu of Rabbi Zilberman, and for a period lived in the Old City near the yeshiva. After about a year, he left because of differences over the derech halimud with Rabbi Eliyahu Zilberman. He then learned in the kollel of Rabbi Moshe Shapiro, and afterward served as a meshiv in Yeshivas Mir Brachfeld, where he also delivered vaadim.
With the founding of Yeshivas Nesivos Chochmah, he was brought in to serve as rosh kibbutz for the first seder. In addition to that role, he gives afternoon shiurim to groups of talmidim in emunah, Tanach, and Toras HaRamchal. Although he later left his formal position as a meshiv in Mir, he still gives vaadim there to members of the kibbutz. In the past, he also served as a meshiv in the second seder of Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch’s yeshiva in Beit Shemesh.
Alongside his yeshiva work, Rabbi Rotman opened a kollel devoted to iyun in Yerushalmi, where he serves as rosh kollel. Over the years, a number of volumes under the title Harerei Tzion have been published, containing his shiurim on sugyos in the Yerushalmi.
In Nissan 5782, a founding gathering was held for “HaYeshiva HaChadasha LaTze’irim,” a yeshiva ketanah established in Bayit Vegan under the leadership of Rabbi Rotman and his brother-in-law, Rabbi Yosef Frank. The yeshiva was later renamed Chayei Yitzchok.
Hashkafically, Rabbi Rotman is identified with the Zilberman approach on many issues, though he is not formally part of that community. He is also known to wear tzitzis with a pesil techeiles. On Chol HaMoed, he leads a sivuv she’arim around Har HaBayis after tefillah at Sha’ar HaKattan.

Biography

ביוגרפיה
נולד בבני ברק למשפחה דתית לאומית. משפחתו מיוחסת לרבי אלימלך מליז’ענסק. בילדותו עבר עם משפחתו לאנגליה לשנתיים שם למד בכיתות ב’ וג’.
למד בישיבה תיכונית שעלבים, בשיעור ב’ ישיבה קטנה עבר לישיבת אור ישראל, ובהמשך עבר לישיבת פוניבז’. בתקופה זו התקרב לרב דב לנדו, עמו למד בקביעות, וכן לרבי שריה דבליצקי.
נשא את בתו של הרב אהרן פרנק ראש ישיבת מעוז חיל, ומתגורר בבית וגן בירושלים.
לאחר נישואיו למד בישיבת מיר והתקרב לרבי נתן צבי פינקל, שם גם למד עם הרב יצחק שלמה זילברמן, אותו הוא מחשיב כרבו המובהק, ואצל הרב שלום אולמן[2]. שימש כר”מ בישיבת אדרת אליהו של הרב זילברמן והתגורר לתקופה בעיר העתיקה בסמיכות לישיבה. לאחר כשנה עזב את הישיבה בשל חילוקי דעות עם הרב אליהו זילברמן בענין דרך הלימוד. בהמשך למד בכולל של רבי משה שפירא ולאחר מכן שימש כמשיב בישיבת מיר ברכפלד, ומסר שם ועדים.
עם פתיחת ישיבת נתיבות חכמה נקרא לשמש בה כראש קיבוץ בסדר א’, ובנוסף הוא מוסר שיעורים אחר הצהרים לקבוצות מבני הישיבה באמונה, תנ”ך, ותורת הרמח”ל. בהמשך עזב את תפקידו כמשיב במיר, אך עדיין מוסר שם ועדים לבני הקיבוץ.
בעבר שימש גם כמשיב בסדר ב’ בישיבתו של הרב משה שטרנבוך בבית שמש.
במקביל, פתח כולל ללימוד ירושלמי בסדר ב’, שם הוא משמש כראש כולל. במהלך השנים אף יצאו מספר ספרים בשם “הררי ציון” בהם נכתבו שיעוריו על סוגיות בירושלמי.
בניסן תשפ”ב נערך כינוס יסוד של “הישיבה החדשה לצעירים” – ישיבה קטנה שהוקמה בשכונת בית וגן בירושלים, בראשות הרב רוטמן וגיסו הרב יוסף פרנק[3] בהמשך שמה שונה שמה ל”חיי יצחק”.
הרב רוטמן מזוהה רעיונית עם קהילת זילברמן בשלל נושאים אם כי אינו חלק מחברי הקהילה[4]. נוהג ללבוש ציצית עם פתיל תכלת. בחול המועד מוביל הרב רוטמן סיבוב שערים סביב הר הבית לאחר תפילה בשער הכותנה[5][6].
