Regarding the Mitzvah of Techeiles in Our Times

[1] We heard with our own ears that Maran HaGaon Rav Chaim Kanievsky shlita told one of those who asked him that one who holds that this is indeed the Techeiles is certainly obligated to put it on his tzitzis.

It is appropriate here to include a handwritten statement from his talmid, HaGaon Rav Eliyahu Mann shlita, which likewise provides clear evidence that Rav Chaim Kanievsky shlita’s position was as stated above.

A question that I asked before Maran HaGaon Rav Chaim Kanievsky shlita:

A friend of mine, a distinguished talmid chacham, etc., is involved in the subject of Techeiles for tzitzis. He studied the matter with great depth and investigated it thoroughly, and it became completely clear to him that new information has now come to light, and that he definitely has genuine Techeiles.

He therefore put Techeiles on his tzitzis and recited the berachah of Shehecheyanu with Hashem’s Name and Malchus.

Answer:

He acted correctly. One for whom the matter is clear should recite the berachah. It is preferable that he make the berachah over a new fruit.
