R’ Moshe Shatz

Rabbi Moshe Shatz is a true oheiv Torah and a remarkable figure in the world of Kabbalistic learning. For close to fifty years, he has dedicated himself to the deep and intricate teachings of the Arizal, unlocking the secrets of kabbalah and passing them on to many of today’s foremost teachers in the field. His Torah is not just a study; it’s a way of life, a path forged through decades of intense dedication and amkus (depth).

Raised in a frum home in Brooklyn, Reb Moshe began his Torah journey in Yeshivat Ner Yisrael in Baltimore, then continued his learning in Kamenetz in New York. Eventually, he crossed the ocean to learn in Eretz Yisrael at the illustrious Brisk, under Rabbi Yoseph Ber Soloveitchik. After returning to America, he became a close talmid of Rav Yoseph Ber Soloveitchik of Boston, absorbing Torah and yiras Shamayim from this gadol b’Yisrael.

For over 40 years, he has been deeply involved in Kabbalistic learning, residing primarily in Yerushalayim and frequenting Yeshivat Mir, where his presence is felt among the lomdim of kabbalah. Known throughout the Kabbalistic yeshivas of Yerushalayim, Reb Moshe has become a master in synthesizing the various streams of Kabbalistic thought, carefully bridging the profound teachings of Chassidus, Lithuanian Torah, and the Arizal’s kabbalah.

In 1995, he authored “Sparks of the Hidden Light,” a sefer that brings together the worlds of Kabbalah and science, offering insight into the wonders of Hashem’s briah (creation). This work represents a monumental effort to open up Kabbalistic teachings to the broader world, allowing those with a background in Torah and a thirst for daas Elokim (knowledge of Hashem) to deepen their understanding.

Rabbi Shatz also delivers weekly shiurim on “Tal Orot” by Rav Yaakov Meir Spielman, teaching those with a taste for Kabbalah the foundations of these esoteric teachings. His classes have a reputation for clarity and depth, and he offers private chavrusas for advanced talmidim who are ready to go further in their avodas Hashem.

His personal observance is nothing short of meticulous; Reb Moshe is known to wear techeiles, connecting him to the ancient mesorah and the kedusha (holiness) of mitzvos. This is no ordinary minhag but reflects his yiras Shamayim and his sense of achrayus (responsibility) in mitzvah observance.
