There aren’t many people who deliver babies in the morning and sit in on municipal meetings that same afternoon. But Dr. Pedram Bral isn’t one to follow the usual script.
For close to 30 years, Dr. Bral has built a reputation as a top-tier obstetrician-gynecologist, specializing in minimally invasive and robotic gynecologic surgery. At Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, he heads the department, while also seeing patients at Boro Park OB/GYN, where his name carries weight, especially in the Orthodox Jewish community.
His patients don’t just appreciate his medical expertise—they trust him. That trust comes from a place deeper than clinical skill. Dr. Bral brings Torah values into his practice, blending empathy with halachic sensitivity in a way that puts people at ease. In a community where modesty and cultural awareness matter, that’s no small thing.
But what makes Dr. Bral’s story truly unique is that his leadership doesn’t end in the hospital. Since 2015, he’s been the Mayor of Great Neck, New York, bringing the same calm precision from the OR to the public square. He’s not about empty words or slogans. He’s about results—paramedic upgrades, energy-efficient streetlights, and perhaps most notably, fiscal responsibility that’s kept taxes flat while improving local services.
Even more impressive? His vision doesn’t stop at the town border.
Under his leadership, Great Neck has become a bridge between Jewish communities in the U.S. and Israel, particularly through the Heartland Initiative and a sister-city relationship with Eli, a community in the Shomron. For Dr. Bral—who was born in Iran and came to this country with a wide lens on Jewish identity—the work is personal. Whether he’s working with Israeli municipalities or collaborating with Druze towns like Ein Qiniyye, he brings people together across backgrounds and beliefs.
It’s rare to see someone live in two very different worlds—medicine and politics—and bring real value to both. But Dr. Pedram Bral has found a way to do just that. With a scalpel in one hand and a city budget in the other, he’s showing that Jewish values can guide not only how we heal, but how we lead.
