He is closely identified with Yeshivas Kehillos Yaakov in Modi’in Illit, the yeshiva he developed after earlier stages in Bnei Brak and Alumah. The public profile around him is relatively quiet. Afterward, in 1994, Rav Shach helped him establish a yeshiva gedolah in Alumah, known publicly as Chazon Yechezkel. Rav Kloft is especially associated with a serious, thoughtful style of Torah. His shiurim are not built on slogans. Rabbi Chaim Kloft (born 24 Shevat 5708 / February 4, 1948) is the former rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas “Kehillos Yaakov” and the rabbi of the “Nefesh HaChaim” community in Modi’in Illit.
Biography
He was born in Rechovot to Rabbi Yoel Kloft. He studied in the קטנה division of Yeshivas Ohr Yisrael in Petach Tikvah, and afterward in Yeshivas Ponevezh in Bnei Brak. He married the eldest daughter of Rabbi Shaul Barzam, who was the son-in-law of Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky. Rabbi Barzam passed away young after an illness, and Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky was the one who raised and married off the children.
In the 1980s he opened a yeshiva for younger students in Bnei Brak under the direction and guidance of his wife’s grandfather, Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky,[1] and after his passing he renamed the yeshiva “Kehillos Yaakov,” after his sefarim.[2] Rabbi Shraga Steinman joined him in leading the yeshiva, and later became the rosh yeshiva in his place.
In 1994, Rabbi Shach helped him open a yeshiva gedolah in the community of Alumah (known publicly as “Chazon Yechezkel”). In 2011, with the help of Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, the yeshiva moved to Modi’in Illit.[3]
Over time, he stopped serving as the active rosh yeshiva and began serving as the nasi of the yeshiva, while his eldest son, Rabbi Shaul, serves as the acting rosh yeshiva.
Today he serves as the rabbi of a community and synagogue in the center of Modi’in Illit called “Nefesh HaChaim,” with distinctive customs based on the practices of the Gra and his halachic conclusions.[clarification needed]
They are also careful in his beis midrash to daven with calmness and pleasantness, with the entire tzibbur together.
There are many groups of avreichim considered his talmidim who participate in his shiurim and talks on matters of machshavah. He also gives weekly vaadim in Kollel Ateres Shlomo in Modi’in Illit, and on Thursday night in the Ligman synagogue in Bnei Brak, as well as in other places.
His Thought
Rabbi Kloft is heavily involved in matters of hashkafah and machshavah. His talks are based on the teachings of the Ramchal, the Gra, and Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, especially the sefer Nefesh HaChaim.
For years he delivered a special vaad on Nefesh HaChaim, and completed the sefer after nine years. Today he gives regular vaadim on Nefesh HaChaim to bochurim and avreichim in Modi’in Illit and Bnei Brak.
His talmidim publish booklets from his shiurim and talks, and they are also distributed through various frameworks, including Kol HaLashon, Kol HaDaf, and the “Nefesh HaChaim” line.
Rabbi Kloft has the practice of placing a pesil techeiles in his tzitzis.

קורות חייו
נולד ברחובות לרבי יואל קלופט. למד בישיבת אור ישראל הקטנה בפתח תקווה, ולאחר מכן בישיבת פוניבז’ בבני ברק. נישא לבתו הגדולה של רבי שאול ברזם שהיה חתנו של הרב יעקב ישראל קניבסקי. הרב ברזם נפטר צעיר לאחר מחלה והרב יעקב ישראל קנייבסקי הוא זה שגידל וחיתן את הילדים.
בשנות ה-80 פתח ישיבה לצעירים בבני ברק בהכוונתו ובהדרכתו של סב רעייתו הרב יעקב ישראל קנייבסקי[1] ולאחר פטירתו הסב את שם הישיבה ל’קהילות יעקב’ על שם ספריו[2]. הצטרף אליו להנהגת הישיבה הרב שרגא שטיינמן שלאחר מכן הפך לראש הישיבה במקומו.
בשנת 1994 סייע לו הרב שך לפתוח ישיבה גדולה ביישוב אלומה (נקרא בפי הציבור: חזון יחזקאל). בשנת 2011 בסיוע רבי חיים קניבסקי עברה הישיבה למודיעין עילית[3].
עם הזמן הפסיק לשמש כראש הישיבה בפועל והחל לשמש כנשיא הישיבה, כאשר בנו הגדול הרב שאול משמש כראש הישיבה בפועל.
כיום משמש כרב קהילה ובית כנסת במרכז מודיעין עילית בשם “נפש החיים” עם מנהגים ייחודיים על פי מנהגי הגר”א ומסקנותיו בהלכה[דרושה הבהרה].
כמו כן מקפידים בבית מדרשו להתפלל במתינות ובנעימה כל הציבור יחד.
ישנם קבוצות אברכים רבות הנחשבים לתלמידיו המשתתפים בשיעוריו ובשיחותיו בענייני מחשבה, והוא מוסר מידי שבוע וועדים בכולל עטרת שלמה במודיעין עילית, ובליל שישי בבית הכנסת הליגמן בבני ברק ובמקומות נוספים.
הגותו
הרב קלופט מרבה לעסוק בענייני הגות ומחשבה. שיחותיו מבוססות על תורת הרמח”ל, הגר”א ורבי חיים מוולוז’ין, ובעיקר בספר “נפש החיים”
במשך שנים הוא מסר ‘ועד’ מיוחד בספר נפש החיים, והשלים את הספר לאחר תשע שנים. כיום הוא מוסר ועדים קבועים בספר ‘נפש החיים’ לבחורים ואברכים במודיעין עילית ובבני ברק.
תלמידיו מוציאים קונטרסים משיעוריו ושיחותיו, וכמו כן הם מועברים במסגרות שונות, בהן קול הלשון וקול הדף וקו “נפש החיים”.
הרב קלופט נוהג להטיל פתיל תכלת בציציותיו.
