Yigael Yadin – Purple Tassels

These tassels were found in the Judean desert by Yigael Yadin and his team. While these tassels weren’t connected to any garment, Yigael Yadin believed these to be ancient Techeiles. What’s more is that scientists like Dr. Israel Ziderman believed this to be ancient Techeiles. However, Dr. Ziderman also plausibly suggested that these may have been used for the Teima process, which involves taking an eggshell with some of the murex liquid, then dipping the wool to test if the dye was fit. The wool then was to be burned so as not to be confused with Techeiles dyed Lishma. These wool tassels apparently were the exception to that rule.

Since the initial finding, Prof. Zvi Koren of Shenkar College chemically analyzed the fabric and found that it’s not Techeiles since it wasn’t made from the Chilazon!
