Eli Stefansky isn’t your average maggid shiur. He’s the kind of guy who can crack a real estate deal one day and break down a Tosafos the next—all without skipping a beat. Originally from Lakewood, New Jersey, Eli’s journey has zigzagged through both America and Eretz Yisrael, but wherever he’s landed, the learning hasn’t stopped. If you’ve been in a Daf Yomi WhatsApp group anytime recently, you’ve probably seen the same thing show up again and again: “8-Minute Daf.” Sometimes it’s just forwarded with no intro at all—like, you either know what this is, or you’ll figure it out in 30 seconds. And half the time, they are.

It isn’t just a cute label. For a lot of people, that short recap has turned into the daily “okay, now I can breathe” version of the daf—something you can actually finish on a commute, between appointments, or while you’re waiting in the carpool line. The wild part is how far it spread. What started as a simple idea—make the daf clear and move—turned into a global shiur that thousands lean on.

Stefansky’s style is a big reason it works. He doesn’t talk at you like it’s a lecture hall. It’s more like a running conversation: quick setup, clean explanation, and then a joke or a diagram when it helps. Sometimes even a prop. Not gimmicky—just enough to keep the sugya from turning into a blur. Think less “late-night show,” more “a good chavrusa who happens to have a whiteboard.”

Before the shiurim blew up, Eli was neck-deep in real estate. He built up Prime Quest Management in Chicago, a solid name in the industry. But at a certain point, the pull of Torah pulled harder. After relocating to Israel with his family, he shifted gears almost entirely. Business took a backseat. The beis medrash became the main office.

And here’s something else not everyone knows: Eli wears Techeiles on his tzitzis. Not because it’s trendy, but because he dug into the sugyos, looked into the halacha, and came to the conclusion that it was the right thing to do. He saw that a number of respected Gedolim had already made the leap—and he followed suit.

At the end of the day, that’s the story with Eli Stefansky. He’s not trying to be a celebrity rebbi. He’s just a guy who took what he’s good at—teaching, business, and connecting with people—and used it to spread Torah far and wide. And whether you’re listening to a shiur in Jerusalem, Cleveland, or on your commute in Flatbush, chances are he’s made you smile while helping you understand Rava and Abaye just a little better.
