The Radzyner Rebbe already tried and failed; this is the same.

The Radzyner’s Sepia officinalis turned out chemically to be synthetic Prussian blue. Modern science shows Murex dye is chemically authentic indigo. This is a halachically valid rediscovery, not a repeat attempt.

But the Aruch HaShulchan wrote that since someone as pious and great as the Radzyner Rebbe was tricked into fake Techeiles, it therefore will not be able to be rediscovered until Moshiach comes.

The Radzyner Rebbe was indeed a great person, but everyone makes mistakes. Rabbi Yosef Gavriel Bechhofer for one has said, albeit somewhat jokingly, that little did the Aruch HaShulchan realize that it would be the murex trunculus. And while the piety of those that have been part of the process to rediscover the murex trunculus snail can be questioned when compared to the Radzyner Rebbe, one takeaway is that Hashem has allowed the ability to make change within Klal Yisrael accessible to anyone regardless of standing, which is itself a beautiful thing.

While this is isn’t a great comparison since Techeiles is a mitzva from the Torah, we see how certain developments like Bat Mitzvahs (Reconstructionist) and singing Im Eshkachech Yerushalayim under the Chuppa (Modern Orthodox/YU, versus saying the words) have over time broken into the Charedi ranks.
